A Construct Drops Graphic Tee Honoring Black Women's Hair
Aptly named the “Goddess tee.”
Artist and creative Jacob Rochester expands his brand A Construct with the “Goddess tee,” a graphic t-shirt bearing an original painting by Rochester featuring four cornrow styles.
The artwork itself is an homage to Black hair salons where hair charts serve as menus to patrons looking to replicate the intricate styles. These images remain an integral part of the Black hair experience to this day.
Rochester spoke on the inspiration saying, “The painting was inspired by hair charts that are present in most Black salons and barber shops. Growing up this imagery was always ingrained as a unique, visual representation of Black culture for me.”
This is an ethos he brings to A Constuct as a whole. “The brand itself is a project I started a few years back,” he says. “I use it as an outlet for certain graphics and artwork to live on garments.”
The previously sold-out “Goddess tee” returns October 12 at 12 p.m. PST via the A Construct web store.
