Anna Delvey Has Been Released From ICE Custody
The scammer is currently under house arrest in her East Village apartment.
Anna Delvey, the “Soho Grifter” made famous thanks to the Netflix show Inventing Anna starring Julia Garner, has been released from ICE custody.
The scammer, real name Anna Sorokin, was found guilty in 2019 for charges such as theft of services and second-degree grand larceny. As detailed in an exposé published on The Cut, the 31-year-old conned around $275,000 USD, staying in luxury hotels and going on extravagant trips while telling people that she was the daughter of a German diplomat. She was sentenced to 12 years in jail, although she was released three years later only to be detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for overstaying her visa.
This weekend, a U.S. immigration judge allowed her to leave the detention center and to her East Village apartment under house arrest. During this time, she is required to wear an ankle monitor while refraining from posting on social media, NPR reports.
Sorokin’s spokesperson Juda Engelmayer shared, “Anna now has her opportunity to demonstrate her commitment to growing and giving back and being a positive impact on those she meets. She has hurdles before her, and she will navigate them with strength and determination, using her experiences and lessons learned.”
The swindler is currently fighting deportation to Germany.
