ASHISH SS23 Pays Tribute to Indian Cinema
With a campaign shot in India for the first time ever.
Shot in India for the first time ever, the campaign aims to explore its Indian cultural heritage, lensed by local photographer Ashish Shah. Offering a fusion of traditional Indian styles with contemporary silhouettes, the SS23 collection features the brand’s signature sequin aesthetic, punctuated with accessories like garlands and bindis.
Paying tribute to 1980s Masala films and Indian film magazines, the collection is littered with references to iconic Indian cinema, alongside taking cues from Indian-made jujubes and monsoons, and particularly, the tulip scene from Yash Chopra’s 1981 classic, Silsila. The collection also draws on designer Ashish Gupta’s own upbringing, bringing back memories of velour bedspreads, favored by his family back in the 1970s.
