Evan Peters Wants to Act in a Romcom, According to Ryan Murphy
The scream king is tired of playing sinister characters.
Evan Peters is ready to take a break from portraying sinister characters. The actor really wants to play someone normal, preferably in a romantic comedy, according to Ryan Murphy, co-creator of American Horror Story and Netflix‘s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, both of which Peters has starred in.
During a recent Q&A event for the Netflix series, Murphy reflected on his experience working with Peters since he was a teenager. “It’s a very interesting thing to show because Evan and I have worked together on Horror Story for many, many years and we took a break and he went off to do Mare of Easttown, for which he won an Emmy award,” Murphy explained. “And he kept saying, ‘I really want to play somebody normal. I want to do a romcom.’”
In the past, Peters has opened up about the negative effects that portraying such dark characters has had on his mental health. “It’s hurting my soul and Evan as a person,” he told GQ in 2018. “There’s this massive amount of rage that’s been called upon from me … It’s just exhausting. It’s really mentally draining, and you don’t want to go to those places ever in your life. And so you have to go there for [some] scenes, and it ends up integrating it somehow into your life. You’re in traffic and you find yourself screaming and you’re like, ‘What the hell? This isn’t who I am.’”
Peters also admitted he was scared of playing Jeffrey AKA the “Milwaukee Cannibal” because “trying to commit to that was absolutely going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life because I wanted it to be very authentic.”
