Is TikTok Entering Its Seggs-Positive Era?

This might be the end of “seggs” as we know it.

TikTok, the app that makes us censor out the word sex, might be entering its hoe-friendly era.

Earlier this year in July, TikTok began testing adult-only live streams. At the time, this meant that users could restrict their content from “viewers that are 18 and above.” Although the potential feature was being tested, users were still not able to create content that went against community guidelines. For example, using the word “sex” outright would still be met with disciplinary action.

Apparently, the test went well, because three months later, the platform announced the feature will be available in the coming weeks. TikTok shared, “Perhaps a comedy routine is better suited for people over age 18. Or, a host may plan to talk about a difficult life experience and they would feel more comfortable knowing the conversation is limited to adults. We want our community to make the most of the opportunities LIVE can bring without compromising on safety.”

Along with this feature, on November 23, the app is increasing the “minimum age requirement for live streaming from 16 years old to 18 years old,” revealed CBS News. If you are over 18 however, you can host live streams and receive tips, allowing more avenues for monetization.

According to the app, the goal is to protect youth while also allowing for more adult creativity. TikTok elaborated, “We have a vibrant and inspiring community on TikTok, and it’s important that our platform remains a safe, supportive and joyful place for our community.”
