The University of California, Berkeley is offering a course dedicated to Nicki Minaj for the Spring 2023 semester.
Titled “Nicki Minaj: Hip-Hop and Feminism,” the semester-long class will cover the musician’s influence on hip-hop music, as well as how her impact connects to “broader historical-social structures and hip-hop feminisms.” Announced via a series of tweets that are now protected, the course’s professor shared that the class will “think critically about [Minaj] and [her] productions w/in the context of broader historical-social structures and hip-hop feminisms.”
In response to the news, Minaj commented on the tweet herself, saying that she would “love to stop by,” to which the professor said,” having [Minaj's] personal insights would be AMAZING.”
Minaj is not the first celebrity to be the subject of a university course in recent years. Bad Bunny has recently gotten his own course at San Diego State University, while students attending Texas State University can register for a course on Harry Styles next semester.
