'Mental Athletic' Issue 5 Heads Into New Subcultural Territories
Moving away from traditional athletic performance and featuring the likes of Saul Nash, Cal Calamia and Blondey McCoy.
Mental Athletic Issue 5 is launching this June, pushing the publication’s signature visual approach into new subcultural territories. Moving away from traditional athletic performance and hard data, the print magazine views sport as a lens for creative movement. This latest release frames physical activity through its relationship with language, art and music across a series of distinct global backdrops.
The upcoming drop features five separate cover stories that document diverse creative figures and collectives. Skater and artist Blondey McCoy headlines a London-focused segment that explores the city through creative practices, nutrition and sound design. Over in California, trans marathon runner, poet and educator Cal Calamia discusses body autonomy and non-binary inclusion in major running events.
The issue also dives into the martial arts world with Shoyoroll founder Vince Quek, who breaks down the visual language and lifestyle of Jiu-Jitsu outside the gym. Additionally, the pages introduce readers to UVU, a fresh creative collective working with synthetic textures and digital imagery, alongside a special limited-edition cover profiling the psycho-naturalist creative unit ACG. Other featured highlights in the editorial lineup include Saul Nash, District Vision, Gramicci and Cafe Cecilia. This is one to get stuck into.
Mental Athletic Issue 5 drops this June via the magazine’s website and distribution channels.
