How TF Is the "Half-Your-Age-Plus-Seven" Rule Even Real?
Is it legit? Or just a pawn of the patriarchy?
Age gap relationships have been the talk of the town since musicians Billie Eilish, 20, and Jesse Rutherford, 31, revealed their relationship. The relationship split platforms like TikTok and Twitter into two subgroups: Millenials who don’t give a f-ck and Gen Z-ers who are mortified. But according to this one rule, Gen Z is right to feel a way.

Dating notoriously triggers many “WTF” moments and apparently, age gaps are no different. The half your age plus seven rule has been around for decades and was created to help cis men, who prefer young fertile women, find a socially acceptable beau. Basically, how young is too young to impregnate.
From there, the rule was created as an unofficial, social rule of thumb to determine if the age gap was OK or cringe.
But what do you think? Is the rule BS and an attempt to normalize a behavior that never should be? Or, is it a helpful rule of thumb for keeping things healthy and consensual?
