Hypebeans Café Gets Cosmic in Collaboration With Spanish Artist Okokume
Featuring an exclusive oil painting and a limited-edition T-shirt range.
Hypebeans and Okokume have unveiled a creative collaboration that transports coffee lovers into the aura of the iconic character, Cosmic Girl. Laura Mas Hernandez, the Spanish artist behind the moniker, has transformed the Hypebeans coffee space in Hong Kong into an immersive experience that invites viewers to join her nuanced universe.
The installation, now open to the public until January 3, 2023, hosts an exclusive oil painting made by the creative. Following Okokume’s painting style, highly influenced by Japanese manga, American cartoons and street culture, the artwork Aura sees Cosmic Girl front an energizing background.
The space seeks to give viewers a sense of comfort, helping their most latent feelings blossom. The partnership’s protagonist, Cosmic Girl, offers a luminous energy that delivers harmony and delicacy. These creative emotions extend beyond the canvas as the Hypebeans Café has been reimagined with reflective material to convey the diverse feelings within the viewers.
Accompanying the art installation is a two-piece limited T-shirt collection inspired by Aura in black and white colorways. As per the artist, “Collaborating with Hypebeans is an exciting way to showcase my work to a broader range of audience, and I wanted to express something different and fresh to mark a new beginning.”
She continues, “The Okokume for Hypebeans collaboration has been created with a more sensorial concept beyond the tangible. I hope viewers at the art installation will resonate with the positive and energetic essence this collaboration transmits.” Elsewhere, a food truck will extend the collaboration to Tong Chong Street Market.
