Kris Wu, the Chinese-Canadian singer and actor whose predatory behavior first surfaced in July 2021, has been sentenced to a total of 13 years in jail in China — 11 years and 6 months for rape and 1 year and 10 months for group licentiousness.

The 32-year-old was convicted of raping “three drunken women” in 2020 and additionally “crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity” in 2018. According to Beijing’s Chaoyang District Court, Wu will be deported from China after his sentence is served.

The musician, previously a member of EXO, was arrested in August 2021 on suspicion of rape after a woman spoke out about his predatory behavior including date rape, followed by 24 more victims who shared similar experiences. The first victim to have spoken up about Wu was 17 years old when the incident happened. In addition to 13 years in jail, Wu also faces a ¥600 million RMB (approximately $84 million USD) fine for tax evasion.

While social media has mostly criticized Wu for his problematic behavior, some fans — a majority of them women — seem to still be on his side. “I saw how many wrongly convicted individuals were proven innocent after DECADES, and god I hope his departure to Canada will give him the opportunity to file an appeal. If not, in 13 years, I’d be 34 and he’d be 44. I’ll wait for that long cuz I just love Kris Wu like that,” a social media user wrote. Others have been tweeting the hashtag #JusticeForKrisWu, claiming that the 32-year-old is “innocent” and “framed as a pedo, predator, rapist and drug abuser.”

Kris Wu, previously tied to Louis VuittonBVLGARIPorscheLancômeL’Oreal and Kans in China, was dropped by brand partners after the sexual assault allegations surfaced.
