Margot Robbie Confirms Her 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Spin-Off Is No Longer Happening
Could this mean another movie starring Johnny Deep, instead?
A few months ago, there was talk regarding Margot Robbie possibly starring in a Pirate of the Caribbean spin-off. Now, the actor has confirmed that is no longer happening.
“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool,” Robbie told Vanity Fair about the film that was potentially going to happen with Disney. “But I guess they don’t want to do it.”
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer had previously revealed there were two scripts being written. “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie,” he told The Sunday Times in May. “We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without. [Will Depp be back?] Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”
At the time, Johnny Depp was undergoing the defamation trial against ex Amber Heard, which may have something to do with Disney’s consideration of Robbie. However, after the verdict proved a victory for Depp in June, many new job opportunities could be lining up for him.
