Take a Look Inside the Dior Exhibition in Tokyo
The “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” takes over the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tokyo.
Dior has brought its “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition to Tokyo, Japan after successful shows in Paris, London, Shanghai, Chengdu, Doha and New York.
Looking back on the 75-year-long history of the luxury brand, the exhibition takes a deep dive into Dior’s archives. The experience begins with a room featuring the iconic New Look and a look into Dior’s love for art. Celebrating the new Tokyo location, the show explores the friendship between Dior and Japan through letters, sketches and more from presentations and events in the country.
Featuring 350 Haute Couture dresses, the exhibition further pays tribute to Japan in both displayed pieces and the rooms, which are designed by architect Shohei Shigematsu. “Our collaboration with Dior across multiple cities and venues has been an exciting opportunity to continuously rethink and recontextualize the retrospective in response to its specific, local setting, much like Christian Dior’s own global expedition and influence,” Shigematsu shared in a press release. Visitors can experience a variety of themes in different rooms throughout the exhibition, including the Coloroma, a colorful, chromatic space displaying Dior’s accessories ranging from cosmetics to hats. Handbags carried by Grace Kelly, Natalie Portman and more are also on display.
The exhibition offers a look at key pieces in the history of Dior, ranging from Christian Dior’s creations to those of his successors, including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri.
