Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 "Sand Be the Time" Is Getting Another Release

UPDATE (December 13, 2022): After an initial release last week, New Balance and Salehe Bembury are returning with another drop of their latest MADE in USA 990v2 collaboration. Inspired by coral sand dunes of southwestern Utah, the sneaker is slated for a global release on December 22 for $200 USD via New Balance’s website in addition to select retailers.

ORIGINAL STORY (December 5, 2022): Salehe Bembury is returning with this fifth drop with New Balance. This time around, the duo has reworked the 990v2 sneaker with a tonal makeover dubbed “Sand Be the Time.”

Images of the kicks first surfaced earlier this year in the summer, revealing the silhouette in a dusty pink hue. The base of the upper is built with a salmon-colored mesh material, which is contrasted with shaggy suede overlays throughout. A purple hue is applied to the “N” logo on the sides as well as the toe box, in addition to the “990v2” branding on the tongue. The shoes are complete with ABZORB soles dressed in the same salmon shade as the upper.

Bembury has additionally unveiled a campaign accompanying the launch, featuring bassist Thundercat sledding down a sand dune. The musician is captured making humorous expressions as he makes his way down the hill, while the clip spotlights the collaborative shoes.

The 990v2 “Sand Be the Time” arrives after Bembury and New Balance’s ongoing partnership, which has featured silhouettes like the 574 in the past.

Take a closer look above and below. The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 “Sand Be the Time” will release on the Spunge webstore on December 8 at 12 p.m. EST.

Elsewhere in footwear, Bodega has dropped a 90/60 and apparel collab with New Balance with a campaign featuring Aminé.
