Cardi B and Offset's Decision To Have Children Came After She Gave Him an Ultimatum
“You have to marry me,” she recalls telling the Migos rapper.
Cardi B and Offset are happily married these days, however, to get to that point the Bronx native gave her now-husband an ultimatum.
During a recent interview with Essence, Cardi recalled a time the two spoke about having children, which for Cardi was out of the question until she had a ring on her finger.
“We were making out, and he was like, ‘You’re going to have my baby one day,’” she told the outlet. “I was like, ‘We ain’t having no baby. You have to marry me. And he was like, ‘Alright, let’s get married.’”
After having an argument, Cardi brought up her ultimatum again, which led them to finally walk down the aisle. “I was like, ‘Let’s just get married then. You said you wanted to marry me,’” she explained. “And we did.”
The couple secretly tied the knot September 2017. The following year, they welcomed their daughter, Kulture, 3. Then, in September 2021, Cardi gave birth to their son, Wave Set.
Cardi also got candid about how their marriage has evolved since its early days. “I feel like our first year, even though we were in love with each other, we had a lot of lust,” the “Money” rapper said. “We didn’t really know each other like that, because he was doing four shows a week. I was doing four shows a week. We would see each other about three or four times a month.”
These days, Cardi and Offset have grown closer and managed to find a healthy balance between their work and personal lives.
“It might sound weird, but we don’t always put love first — because sometimes, you can put love before work and mess up your career, because you’re not focused,” Offset told the outlet. “Love is important, but if you’ve got that foundation, we should respect each other and what we have going on.”
