Aries Expands Its Universe With SS23 Collection, "Taking Off"

Comprised of five archetypes inspired by youth, nostalgia and more.

Aries has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2023 collection titled “Taking Off,” exploring youth and nostalgia through five different chapters inspired by Miloš Forman’s 1971 film of the same title.

Founder and creative director Sofia Prantera was first motivated to create the designs after listening to Los Angeles band VNP’s “Do You Have Friends in Your Dreams,” later enlisting longtime collaborators David Sims, Douglas Irvine and Dario Vigorito to capture the latest range.

The SS23 lineup is delivered through a variety of archetypes, the first being “The Camden Punk,” which spotlights goth and skate subcultures through denim designs featuring acid wash details. These pieces are paired with baggy trousers, as well as cargo bras, toolbelt skirts and mesh moto tops. Elsewhere, “The ’90s Casual” and “The Teenage Romantic” chapters are all about nostalgia, informed by the “high school jock” and “prom queen” with preppy styles such as varsity jackets and oxford striped shirts.

Next in the lineup is “The Cultist,” which is filled with classical and religious references. A newsprint about Ozzy Osbourne’s hidden suicide takes over skirts and jackets while Aries’ archival “boobs” pattern also makes a return. The collection is rounded out with “The Trust Fund Baby” archetype with gold charm details on suits, overdyed lace on vests, silk unisex pajamas and more.
