Jennette McCurdy Discusses Her Late Mother's Abuse on 'Red Table Talk'

The Nickelodeon alum opens up about a disturbing email and being forced to shower with her brother.

Jennette McCurdy made an appearance on Red Table Talk to open up about about her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, which details the abuse caused by her late mother, Debra McCurdy, who died of breast cancer in 2013.

During the conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield Norris, the iCarly alum shared a disturbing email her mother sent her back in 2012, after she discovered she was in a romantic relationship with someone much older than her. The actor-slash-author was 20 at the time.

“‘Dear (Jennette), I am so disappointed in you,’” McCurdy read. “‘You used to be my perfect little angel, but now you are nothing more than a little — all caps — slut, a floozy, all used up. And to think you wasted it on that hideous ogre of a man. Add that to the list of things you are: liar, conniving, evil.’”

Her mother’s email continued, per McCurdy, “‘You look pudgier too. It’s clear you’re eating your guilt. Thinking of you with his ding-dong inside of you makes me sick. Sick! I raised you better than this. What happened to my good little girl? Where did she go and who is this monster that has replaced her? You’re an ugly monster now. I told your brothers about you and they all said they disown you just like I do. We want nothing to do with you.’”

The former Nickelodeon star said her mother signed off the email with the following: “‘Love, Mom — or should I say Deb since I am no longer your mother? P.S. Send money for a new fridge; ours broke.”

McCurdy also opened up about being forced to shower with her brother when she was 11 and he was 16. During the showers, her mom would join them and wash them, insisting that they wouldn’t do a good enough job themselves. Their mom would do “genital and breast exams” on them, claiming she was checking for cancer.
