Rick Owens DRKSHDW x Converse Add Zebra Prints to Latest Collab

Launching with a campaign starring Big Freedia.

New year, new Rick Owens DRKSHDW x Converse drop — the duo is kicking off 2023 with two new kicks added to their ongoing partnership.

Following up on last year’s square-toed TURBODRK, Owens has reimagined the classic Chuck 70 sneaker once again. The TURBODRK Chuck 70 returns with its usual elongated tongue and squared toe while the entire shoe is covered in zebra-print jacquard. The kicks are complete with co-branding on the tongue tag and a white midsole. Meanwhile, the TURBOWPN, also featuring the exaggerated tongue, arrives in all-black with hits of yellow on the lacing and Converse branding on the sides. The sneakers are accompanied by zebra-print backpacks offered in two size options — the Go Lo and Go 2.

The launch is accompanied by a campaign starring musician Big Freedia. Owens spoke of the release in a statement, “Over 10 years ago, I was frustrated that there wasn’t a sleazy dance club within walking distance from my house in the 7th arrondissement of Paris so I decided to start one myself. I reached out to Big Freedia to come perform because I was excited about the new energy and attitude I heard coming from the New Orleans bounce scene… ” He continued, “Now, 10 years later I have asked him to represent my collab with converse to celebrate his enduring power and ferocity in an all too often narrow and judgemental world.”

Take a closer look at the collaboration in the gallery above. The Rick Owens DRKSHDW x Converse TURBODRK Chuck 70 and TURBOWPN will release globally on January 10 via Converse and Rick Owens‘ online stores as well as in stores and at select retailers. You can also listen to a special playlist that Owens has curated for this particular launch.
