Dating App Enters Its Flop Era, Revealing Gen Z's New Bad Habit
TEA.
Dating apps once reigned as supreme and in 2022, took a turn for the worst as many ditched the experience. Aiming to curb common issues with online dating, the Tame app offered two new approaches, but Twitter is not amused.
After advertising its standout features on Instagram, social media users began to research the app, searching for a new place to call home. However, on the hunt to decipher the new app’s vibe, Twitter users began to push back against two standout features, calling it a “prison.”

At one point in the dating app game, anti-ghosting features were all the hype. However, that same feature might be what gets the Tame app canceled. In its description, it revealed, “If no longer interested, users will have to justify why they’re ending the conversation. They won’t be able to browse other profiles until they do so. It’s okay to change your mind, but transparency is important.”
Snowballing the dissatisfaction, the next slide highlights the “One match at a time” feature which is meant to remove the game-like feel of dating apps lately. “Focus on each other, you will not be able to view other profiles once you are in a conversation,” the ad read. “This is to prevent users from stacking matches or talking while browsing other profiles.”
Before the pandemic, an app like this would have reigned as it offered features monogamous people wanted like no ghosting and focusing on one person at a time. However, post-pandemic, polyamory and other unconventional lifestyles have dominated, making apps like Tame feel “prison” like, as one social media user described it.
As a result, it seems that ghosting is something that no longer alarms people. It seems people aren’t entirely turned off by ghosting, considering an anti-ghosting feature sent all of Twitter up in arms. Does this mean that Gen Z is on a toxic streak? Or do they just understand that no communication is communication?
The app has since taken to Instagram to explain the benefits behind its features, pictured below.
