Netflix's 'Perfect Match' Delivers "F-ckgirls," Drama, Red Flags and More — But What About "True" Love?
A dating expert weighs in on the cast’s ability to find true love.
Netflix semi-broke the internet after its announcement of new series Perfect Match, which follows singles who failed at finding love and connection on Netflix’s most popular series. Lovehoney‘s dating expert, Callisto Adams, spills all the tea on whether finding love in this villa is likely.
Perfect Match has already tested a few couples between challenges and new arrivals at the villa. But with challenges and new arrivals, it raises the question of whether people can find and remain in love — especially with calculated contestants hell-bent on remaining “in the house.” According to Adams “Reality TV shows tend to follow particular format standards, that condition the way that people interact with one another in them.” And that’s definitely the case here.
Omg, this show looks like toxicity and red flags times a thousand. I’m going in!#PerfectMatch #PerfectMatchNetflix

These standards and protocols seem to be at the forefront of minds after several scenes of Savannah Palacio, Chase Demoor and Joey Sasso doing whatever they need to do to keep their spot. At several points, several contestants like Francesca Farago questioned whether her peers were truly there for love as their affection for others only arose after their house placement was tested.
“There are intense dynamics regarding their routines, time spent on the show, and rules or guidelines depending on the reality show. This adds pressure and might make the people involved in those shows show a different part of themselves.” There’s also the added pressure of appearing “likable” to the public so you can remain in their good graces while finding love. This looming in the background of contestants’ minds also alters their behavior.

As a result, all of these dynamics, paired with the fact that the show resembles the “Hunger Games of Dating” as contestant Demoor from Too Hot To Handle called it, will “add another element of pressure on contestants,” Adams revealed. ”A romantic connection can be formed on a reality TV show, however, the dynamic nature of the reality show might not prepare the couples for the reality once they’re on their own when nobody is watching.”
