UPDATE: A Closer Look at Gentle Monster and Maison Margiela's Upcoming Collaboration

Gentle Monster is adding to its already extensive list of collaborators, including the likes of Moncler and BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, with an all-new collaboration with Maison Margiela.
Marking the brand’s first partnership of 2023, the joint venture was first teased during Maison Margiela’s Co-Ed 2023 showcase, which took place earlier this year. Since then, Gentle Monster has taken to Instagram to give fans a closer look, showcasing a pair of modular goggle-style sunglasses. Arriving with thick seamless hinges, both the glasses frame and its lenses are designed with a sleek black chrome finish.
According to the teaser, the new glasses aim to “embrace the signature four stitches detail,” as they feature two white stitches on each side of the frame, in a bid to champion Margiela’s now-iconic blank label motif. Crafted with acetate, the collection’s designs offer glossy hues of black, white, grey and cream, alongside transparent and tortoiseshell colorways and arrive in a selection of curved and oversized silhouettes. The collection aims to explore the dualities of individual expression, for example, “playfulness vs. elegance, delicacy vs. destruction and past vs. future,” according to the brand’s press release.
To celebrate the collection, Gentle Monster and Maison Margiela will host a number of pop-up experiences in seven cities around the world, offering a physical reinterpretation of the collaboration’s key elements.
The Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster eyewear collection is set for global launch on February 28, with eager fans able to register on GM’s website for early access notifications now. The collection is also set to land on HBX later this month.
