Selena Gomez has revealed new info about upcoming music, including themes and the sound she plans to focus on.

“If I had my way, I would probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile,” Gomez told Vanity Fair for its new Hollywood issue. “The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through.”

She added, “It’s really powerful, strong, very pop. The theme generally is freedom — freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”

In 2021, the Disney alum revealed she was considering retiring from music after dropping her next album.

“It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously,” Gomez told Vogue at the time. “I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’”

She continued, “I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that, I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”

Stay tuned for new music from Gomez.
