SUNNEI's FW23 at Milan Fashion Week Was a Masterclass in Crowd Surfing
Modelled by the brand’s team of designers, web managers and assistants.
SUNNEI‘s fashion week showcases are always one to watch, from twins in the audience to sprinting down the streets of Milan, the understated label knows how to host a show and its Fall/Winter 2023 iteration was no different.
Upon entering the space, guests were handed a “user guide,” aka a press release, which outlined the rules and requirements for attendance at the Milan Fashion Week showcase. Rule number one was to “Leave your expectations outside this building. Drop preconceptions, shake off assumptions,” followed by “Now, forget perfectly perfect perfection and welcome reality.”
The guide went on to explain that, as many of us might have guessed, a show for SUNNEI is not one that’s “constructed” in a typical fashion, but instead aims to “scratch the surface and bring to light what’s hidden.” The showcase drew inspiration from the people behind the brand, “those same people without whom SUNNEI wouldn’t exist.”
As a result, the collection was modelled by the brand’s team of designers, web managers and assistants, who exercised a lesson in trust as they each walked down the runway and proceeded to surf the crowd. The collection itself was the result of months of design and textile research, resulting in vibrant colors, crochet fur, spherical jewels and headpieces.
