From Hookups to Self-Love: How Gen Z Is Elevating Their Dating Experiences
From Tinder’s “It Starts With A Swipe” global campaign.
Tinder releases its first global campaign, “It Starts With A Swipe,” revealing how young adults are redefining dating on apps and IRL.
According to Tinder’s global chief marketing officer, Melissa Hobley, says “Tinder daters have changed the state-of-the-date by tossing out traditional views and are embracing experiences on their own terms, not to mention a whole new vocabulary.” The new wave of sex and dating culture is not only inclusive but honest and empowering with Gen Z and Millenials refusing to sugarcoat what they want — cue the rise of situationships.
Here are five ways Gen Z and Millennials are redefining dating.
Death to the “one night stand” and “hookup culture“
“For 56% of young daters, the term “hookup” is outdated or means something different to them than it does for older generations. Hooking up,” however young
singles define it, is simply part of the dating process, and a way to explore a connection without
the pressure of labels – it is not something to be ashamed or secretive about.”
Sexuality is super fluid
“LGBTQIA+ members are now the fastest growing group on Tinder, and members aged 18-25 that identify as LGBTQIA+ on Tinder have more than doubled in the last 2 years. 3 In fact, 33% agree that their sexuality is more fluid and 29% say their gender identity has become more fluid in the past 3 years.”
Self-love > everything
“Self-love and fulfillment are also growing
considerations among young singles, with 80% of 18-25 year olds agreeing that their own
self-care is their top priority when dating and 79% wanting prospective partners to do the same”
Community and keeping it lowkey > Lovers
“Tinder also revealed that the top three things 18-25 year old singles are looking for right now are companionship, friendship or a situationship. 84% of people polled said they’re hopeful and optimistic when it comes to dating and relationships, showing an openness to possibilities that come from making new connections.”
