EXCLUSIVE: adidas and Marimekko's Fifth Collection Aims to Inspire Optimism

This time, comprising womenswear, menswear and kids.

adidas and Marimekko are continuing their longstanding partnership through a new limited-edition, cross-category sportswear collection, aiming to “inspire optimism through movement.”

Marking the duo’s fifth collaboration, the new collection introduces two new signature prints from the Finnish label’s archive, merging them with adidas’ performance technology. The Linssi print was originally designed in 1966 by Kaarina Kellomäki, a textile and environmental artist. Meanwhile, the Lokki print was designed in 1961 by Maija Isola, one of Marimekko’s most established print designers. As a result, the contemporary collection takes cues from retro 1960s design, paying tribute to the origins of the prints and reworking them.

“The Linssi and Lokki prints were created over 50 years ago with a genuine desire to bring people energy and joy with bold prints and vibrant colors. To see our patterns come alive through movement, and supported by adidas’ world-class performance technology, is incredible. This collection is a modern expression of print and a wonderful legacy for the next generation to enjoy,” says Marimekko’s Creative Director, Rebekka Bay, in a press release.

This season’s collaboration comprises womenswear, menswear and kidswear — with pieces spanning sports like running, tennis, cycling and golf. Using adidas’ core sportswear innovations like Aeroready and Formotion, the collection aims to encourage self-expression and movement, offering unparalleled support for any activity.

Core pieces within the collection include the Aeroimpact Light Support Bra, Future Icons Three Stripes Flared Leggings, Three Stripes Sweatshirt and Optime Training 7/8 Tight, alongside a Marathon Jacket and even a kidswear onesie.

Take a look at the collection above, set to launch on adidas’ website and in stores from March 15.
