Hong Kong Music Collectives Mean Gurls Club x Feed the Dragon Celebrate IWD
Raising funds for a local charity supporting young women in crisis.
In time for International Women’s Day (March 8), Hong Kong-based music collectives Mean Gurls Club and Feed the Dragon joined forces to bring the local scene together by hosting DJ workshops and an afterparty.
Taking place at the cocktail bar Terrible Baby located in Eaton Hotel, the day kicked off with a DJ mixing workshop and a career presentation from Mengzy, DJ Fu, Subez Yeti and Just Bee, the names behind the two collectives. Following the events, an afterparty took place at the venue with Mean Gurls Club founder Subez Yeti and Feed the Dragon co-founder Mengzy, as well as Farrah, Shanda and Angelika, shortly after their respective sets at Clockenflap Festival the weekend prior.
While uplifting female creatives in the local Hong Kong music scene, the International Women’s Day event raised funds for Teen’s Key — a charity that supports young women in crisis, including pregnant teens, young mothers and female sex workers.
“A few months ago, we were discussing how we would love to see more female DJs in the scene and realized International Women’s Day was coming up soon. On the day, the event was open to all genders and it was really heartwarming to see the enthusiasm from our workshop participants,” Subez Yeti and Mengzy shared with Hypebae. “Most of all, we’re super happy to be able to support Teen’s Key charity while having a fun day and party at the same time.”
