Designs inspired by the women of Uzbekistan.
Tashkent-based designer Jenia Kim has unveiled the Fall/Winter 2023 collection for her eponymous label, J. Kim.
For those unfamiliar, the creative founded J. Kim in 2013, with her background as an Uzbekistan-born Korean (born into a Koryo-Saram, or Soviet Korean family) informing her work.
This time around for the FW23 season, Kim took references from the women of Uzbekistan with a key focus on bright colors and layering. The designer brought the patterns of the Timurid miniatures to her garments, introducing new colors for the brand while black and white serve as the base of each piece. Flower-shaped cut-outs on the sleeves of jackets reveal colorful prints underneath, with similar design elements spotted on puffer jackets, maxi-length skirts and more. This vibrant palette is fused with cocoon shapes and sleek silhouettes with fringes at the hems adding more texture to each look. The designs are accessorized with scarves, tied shawls, hoods resembling traditional hairstyles and more.
