LOEWE Jumps Into The Rabbit Hole for SS23
Delivering deflated balloon shoes and floral heels.
J.W. Anderson excels at marrying whimsy with luxury and LOEWE‘s Spring/Summer 2023 footwear collection is no exception.
The mélange of shoes is finally making its way off of the runway, showcasing the brand’s signature surrealist aesthetic, delivering pumps covered in deflated balloons alongside formidable chunky clogs. Hidden desires for fetish play arrive in the form of the long-awaited anthurium sandals while femininity is reimagined, thanks to sharpened edges and deeply saturated colors. Otherwise serious pumps are made more playful with cheeky cartoon-inspired construction as buttery yellow shoes are elevated with thin, pedestal-like heels. Joining them is a thoughtful double strapped sandal, taking a more meta approach as its dual fastenings suggest a multitude of ways to wear.
The shoes take on a life of their own, becoming the anthropomorphic subjects of a slightly spooky short film, casting the footwear in the midst of thunderstorms and rave-like settings. “What fresh mysteries are made by modern illusions, where do they wander and what kind of footprints will they leave?” guides the eerie video, begging wearers and watchers to imagine where LOEWE’s shoes might take them.
