New Exhibition 'Not Just Brown, Not Just Indian' Showcases South Asia's Many Identities

British-Tamil photographer Mathushaa Sagthidas just opened her debut exhibition in London, titled Not Just Brown, Not Just Indian.
The extensive collection of photographs seeks to showcase the vast range of traditions, histories and identities in South Asia and draws from the photographer’s own experience as an Eelam Tamil woman. With multiple cultures often overlooked as “Just Indian,” the exhibition aims to highlight the many different cultures that South Asia possesses, featuring community members across Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
“Others involved in the project, from models to makeup artists to artistic directors, shared these experiences where they felt their distinct and diverse cultures and traditions were classed as one,” explains Sagthidas in a press release.
