Selena Gomez's "Power Braid" Is the Instant Solve To Hiding Thinning Hair

Finding a hairstyle that works with your texture and condition can be quite challenging when you have thinning hair. You don’t want your tresses to be styled with too much tension, but you also don’t want an opportunity for your bald spots or patches to get their shine on — so what’s a girl to do? Well, according to Selena Gomez and professional stylists, a “Power Braid” may be your immediate solution.

We’re not saying that those with thinning locs need to wear a braid for the rest of their lives, but it is a style that works quickly for any occasion. The “Power Braid” derives from the inspiration from Selena Gomez, who recently sported a chic slicked-back ponytail at a Rare Beauty Event in New York. Vogue dubbed the name itself from hairxpert Orlando Pita as it meant to highlight bone structure, with emphasis on the cheekbones — but in essence, it draws away any attention to certain areas of the hair.

Braids ultimately are a great way to style your hair as they serve as a protective style and create the most voluminous waves when taken out that make your hair appear thicker and fuller, naturally.

For the “Power Braid,” you’ll want to slick your hair back with an oil or serum and smooth the hair back into a low ponytail that starts at the middle or nape of your neck. For added value, the Hypebae Beauty Team suggests feeding in extra hair pieces/extensions throughout the braid and the tresses to make the braid appear fuller and give off the “Power” effect.
