Here's Why 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Has a Straight Host
The show’s creator reveals who made the decision while viewers suggest a new choice…
It’s no secret by now that Nick and Vanessa Lachey are the face of reality hosting, especially on Netflix. From Love Is Blind to the straight Ultimatum, they’re that couple. So, when JoAnna Garcia Swisher was announced as the host of a queer show like The Ultimatum: Queer Love, viewers were left confused.
According to Chris Coelen, the show’s creator, “It was really Netflix’s idea to have her and have a different host than Nick and Vanessa Lachey,” he revealed vulnerably. “I think was a good idea to have a different person.”

As for why Netflix would select a straight host: “I think one of the one of the big takeaways for me about this, or any of these shows that we do, is that we’re all human beings,” he continued. ”I don’t think that you have to be completely aligned, identity-wise with someone, to be able to empathise with them.”
“For people who feel like, ‘Oh, I’m a straight person, I might not relate to the stories on this show,’ they are wildly mistaken… I’m a straight person — I don’t think that has anything to do with being able to tell the story. At the end of the day, I’m dedicated to telling the story and understanding the people whose stories that we’re telling. He closes: ”I put Joanna in that category as well.”
Viewers on Twitter were not here for it and suggested a different route: Tiff’s no-bullshit friend Natasha.
