Discover the Rare Photographic Works of Andy Warhol at Château la Coste
A selection of more than 40 pieces ranging from the fetishistic to the banal.
Château La Coste presents “Voyages avec Warhol,” an unmissable exhibition featuring rare photographic works by pop art icon Andy Warhol. Curated from the James R. Hedges, IV Collection, the show includes over 40 pieces showcasing Warhol’s diverse subjects, from the mundane to the glamorous and his fascination with photography throughout his prolific career.
Warhol’s lifelong interest in photography began in his childhood and as an adult, he used the camera not only to document his life but also as a tool for his artistic creations. The showcase highlights the importance of photography in the American visual artist’s work, including the use of a 35mm Minox camera in his later years.
“Voyages avec Warhol” offers a glimpse into the artist’s passions, with examples like his exploration of the male nude in the series “Sex Parts and Torsos.” The exhibition also features Warhol’s fascination with capturing everyday objects, such as toilets and hotel lobby chandeliers, which carried multiple meanings for him.
Additionally, the show includes photographs from Warhol’s escapes to Montauk and Aspen, where he connected with nature and spent time with friends. The exhibition provides insight into his personal and romantic sensibilities, showcasing moments with notable figures like Halston and Keith Haring.
Presented in collaboration with Hedges Projects, “Voyages avec Warhol” coincides with the Rencontres d’Arles festival. The exhibition is open to the public at La Bastide Gallery until September 10. In similar news, this exhibition proves Brigid Berlin was the baddest muse of them all.
