Kiki Grammatopoulous' Outsole Plants Seeds as You Move
Her “Rewild the Run” project is growing a better Earth.
We always hear we sow what we reap and Kiki Grammatopoulos is taking that adage to heart.
Her “Rewild the Run” project delivers an innovative outsole that allows wearers to plant seeds as they move, mimicking the natural process of epizoochory — the migration of seeds via animal fur. The outsole is equipped with tiny hooks that grab onto soil and other plant debris, helping leaving behind more abundant environment with each step. The generous platform is covered in a painter’s blue and attached to a New Balance running sneaker.
Initially debuted during Milan Design Week makes urban rewilding more accessible, aiding in both the preservation and restoration of our everyday environments. Grammatopoulous has added her one-of-a-kind outsole to the Nike Zoom Vomero +5 and ISPA Overreact, teasing the possibility of seed sowing soles for all.
