Nipple Tassels and Face Coverings Took Over ROTATE SS24
Designed for “the sophisticated rebel.”
ROTATE‘s Spring/Summer 2024 showcase at Copenhagen Fashion Week offered a multitude of juxtapositions. Held in the luxurious Hotel D’Angleterre, a raw and rebellious energy characterized the collection, drawing inspiration from the great designers of ’90s London.
Speaking about the location, Jeanette and Thora tell Hypebae, “A large part of our inspiration for the collection itself came from classic Parisian hotel architecture and the richness of the décor: the velvet and the curtain tassels, and so the idea of showing the collection at Copenhagen’s most famous hotel, Hotel D’Angleterre, was just meant to be! The classical elegance of the hotel offered a stunning backdrop for our collection.”
Designed for “the sophisticated rebel,” the collection flits between ideas of tradition and resistance, releasing sculptured gowns followed by biker trousers and nipple tassels, conceptualized at a time “where punk met couture.” Leaning heavily into the concept of contrast, the collection continues to transition from masculine silhouettes to sultry, often feminine, detailing, like shirts featuring in-build corsetry and suiting arriving with cropped torsos.
“We think that it is incredibly empowering to show skin and embrace your body. Not only is it sexy, but it is also rebellious and courageous. It is a power move, and you can see a big shift in power dressing this season in general (however that looks to the wearer),” they add.
The collection follows the brand’s responsible design ethos, with its fabrics boasting a 92% certified material usage. With a distinct focus on movement and tactility, the collection’s stellar silhouettes were elevated by the use of tassels, gathered and tufted tulle. Completed by the addition of LES PETITS JOUEUERS footwear, looks featured strappy heeled sandals with mirror embellishment for an added touch of glamor.
