Alexandra Șipa Is "In Good Company" for Her SS25 Collection
The emerging Romanian designer honors lace as a symbol of her heritage.
Rising designer from Bucharest, Romania, Alexandra Șipa, honed her craft at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, where she began developing her signature approach to lace. Her work stands out for its intricate, ethereal quality — a modern reinterpretation of Romanian lace-making traditions that are woven deeply into her cultural roots. “I see lace everywhere I look; it’s the fabric of my culture,” Șipa reveals in a press release. “It’s the rugged edges of my grandmother’s iron fence, the delicate stone flowers etched into the facades of crumbling gray buildings and the soft curtains in a local shop.”
Her Spring/Summer 2025 collection titled “In Good Company,” delves into these inspirations and reimagines lace in bold, unexpected forms. The collection plays with lace as a living material, pushing its boundaries by twisting, stretching and reshaping the fabric. The materials themselves come from deadstock lace suppliers, adding a layer of sustainability to her creative process.
“In Good Company” embodies Șipa’s memories, layered with textures and sensory elements that evoke Romania’s atmosphere in winter — the earthy scent of damp concrete, the cold allure of abandoned brutalist spaces and the sweet, nostalgic scent of savarina, a beloved Romanian dessert. These smells and sights come together to form an intimate tapestry of warmth, nostalgia and shared memories.
Every piece in the collection is modeled by Șipa’s friends within the intimate confines of her apartment. The setting is a deliberate choice, capturing personal moments of femininity, sensuality and vulnerability that only arise in the presence of close companions. The result is a deeply personal collection that celebrates the nuanced expressions of womanhood.
