Goodbye Situationships, Hello... Nanoships?

Tinder’s “Year In Swipe” trend report reveals Gen Z’s dating habits.

Tinder releases its annual “Year In Swipe” dating trend report.

Each year, Tinder looks back at your swipes creating a snapshot of user connections and trends. According to its 2024 report, situationships have a new counterpart: Nanoships.

Instead of questioning their affinity for situationships, users are embracing all connections — deep or not. ”No romantic connection felt too small to matter,” the report stated. “Singles are finding meaning in even the tiniest interactions—whether it’s something serious or just for fun, those little micro-moments are leading to real possibilities.”

Kiss-met, a “playful take on kismet, meaning destiny or fate,” is also trending. A fresh take on meet-cutes — which everyone’s yearning for — the trend has grown tremendously in 2024 revealing a deep desire for love, connection and spontaneous connection.

Speaking of desire, Tinder’s users are “Loud Looking,” aka ditching mysterious vibes and openly yearning for specific types of love — cue “Man In Finance” and “Gamer Girlfriends.”

Overall, “Singles are embracing intentionality in their dating lives,” Tinder’s CMO Melissa Hobley shared. Refusing to settle, “These trends are all about empowering choice — whether it’s confidently stating your needs while Loud Looking, savoring serendipitous moments through Kiss-mets, or finding meaning in micro-connections with Nanoships. While last year was focused on ‘dating for the plot’ and casually exploring this year, singles are stepping up, leading with purpose, and making their dating journeys truly their own.”

As for the future, 2025 is all about intentionality and boldly yearning for love.

In other news, MAC releases “Sex Education with Kim Petras.”
