Charles Jeffrey's 10th Anniversary Show Brought Drama to the Streets

Scottish designer, Charles Jeffrey took to the streets of London to celebrate ten years of LOVERBOY this London Fashion Week season. Taking place at London’s Somerset House, the birthday extravaganza showcased the designer’s new collection amidst a flurry of celebrity guests and fashion fans.

The show began as makeshift soldiers appeared on the outdoor balconies of the iconic venue, breaking into song via choir. As the show progressed, a slew of dramatic models walked, scowled, danced and sang down the runway — including American singer Beth Ditto.

Read on for Hypebae’s summary of Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY.

Who: The celebratory event was attended by fans like FKA twigs and Tilda Swinton, with names like Beth Ditto and Tish Weinstock walking the runway itself.

See: Exploring the concept of “queer time,” the showcase presented a slew of “characters” who make up the Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY world. From striped pyjamas to banana boots, the collection offered a playful range of punk-inspired silhouettes, transitioning from army and sailor-inspired uniforms and wedding dresses to deconstructed knitwear and a Converse collaboration.

Hear: A dramatic choir kickstarted the show, followed by an impressive surprise performance by Beth Ditto, who reenacted a contemporary version of Patti Smith’s “Gloria.”

Touch: Tactility underpinned the collection, with chunky knitted fruit bags and fuzzy pink mary janes accessorizing dishevelled knitwear, silky dresses and sheer tops. The collection also featured denim dresses with frayed edges, skirts with loose threads and tulle tops.

Taste: The collection was an ode to being who you are, celebrating queer identities through experimental grunge and punk fashions.
