Tinder and Grindr Are Down — And the Girls Are Scrambling

Leading dating apps Tinder and Grindr are down.

On August 15, several users attempted to open their Grindr app to no avail. Shortly after, Tinder users chimed in with the same experience. “Why can’t I open Grindr? Or Tinder,” one user questioned.

In true Twitter form, the commentary hilariously points out the hours in which people actually hookup — as many didn’t know their peers were up for Thursday morning orgasms. Of course, Astrology Twitter didn’t skip a beat and reminded the girls that their favorite apps were down during Mercury Retrograde, a time known for miscommunication and tech failures.

However, the shock is surprising given the discourse surrounding dating apps recently. In 2023, there was a collective pause on dating apps as Gen Z and Millennials reported “dating app fatigue.” The term essentially refers to dating app burnout and called for a return to dating IRL — cue the run club trend. In 2023, we predicted that the dating app hype was over, but the girls would never delete them. In less than a year, Tinder and Grindr’s unexpected shutdown revealed that to be true.

Turns out, the girls did give up on finding love on the apps… their hookups on the other hand… still in play.
