Willy Chavarria and Tinder Spotlight LGBTQIA+ Rights At Paris Fashion Week

In just two days, it’s already sold out.

Queer designer Willy Chavarria raises the bar with his collection at Paris Fashion Week. What set the show apart? Chavarria and Tinder put an end to the “fashion v. politics” debate with a collection that screams love, allyship and empathy.

The closing walk, a huge moment for designers each Fashion Week, was shared with people of all identities and introduced queer, Chicano culture to the mainstream. In Old English font, Chavarria’s sweatshirt reads: “How we love is who we are.” The best part? The soundtrack was the viral sermon by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde who begged President Donald Trump to show “mercy” on immigrants and transgender people after his promise of mass deportations and only recognizing two genders.

The moment went viral as the California-bred designer walked down the runway with J Balvin, queens and more offering gorgeous representation.

“Fashion has always been a reflection of the cultural and political climate,” Chavarria stated, “and it has the power to challenge norms, start conversations, and inspire change. Together with Tinder and the Human Rights Campaign, we’re using the Paris Fashion Week platform to make a statement on a global stage that ignites a call to action and amplifies the affirmation of identity. This campaign is about embracing who we are and celebrating love in all of its forms.”

According to Tinder, over 20% of new users identify as queer so this partnership was a no-brainer. “With over 20% of new Tinder users identifying as queer, this partnership underscores the brand’s dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices, breaking down barriers, and fostering an inclusive space where everyone can show up authentically. In Willy’s honor, Tinder made a donation to the Human Rights Campaign to further their mission of advancing equality, unity, and liberation for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Since its release, the sweatshirt priced at $200 USD has already sold out. Yes, you read that correctly, In. just two days, Chavarria and Tinder’s partnership flew off the shelves it barely sat on.
