Fashion Label Abacaxi Launches Its First-Ever Perfume

“Tropic of Sheena” is the South Asian-American brand’s first bespoke fragrance.

With roots in India and all over the world, Brooklyn-based brand abacaxi has just unveiled its first fragrance. “Tropic of Sheena” is described by the brand as smelling like “a stroll through the rainforest at dusk.” Similarly to the artisanal techniques and slow fashion practices of abacaxi’s garments, the new perfume is bottled by hand and infused with natural extracts.

When conceptualizing the scent, the brand’s creative director Sheena Sood referenced her memories traveling the world in order to select evocative scent notes that both spoke to her personal experiences and the brand as a whole. “Tropic of Sheena” is said to be green, warm and spicy — with lush notes of pink peppercorn fruit, Indian jasmine flowers, Japanese star anise and Vietnamese Oud.

While the perfume contains carefully-curated botanically derived ingredients, the bottle itself features a hand-embellished wooden cap that speaks to the fragrance’s biographical nature. “Through music, scent, visuals, touch and texture, and even taste, we get transported into the realm of abacaxi. I wanted to create a fragrance that would add another dimension to the storytelling behind my brand and collections,” Sood says in a press release.

“Tropic of Sheena” retails for $195 USD for the full size bottle and $55 for the travel size — it’s available for purchase on the brand’s website.
