Tems Takes Her Power to the Field with San Diego FC

The Lagos-born musician is the latest addition to the club’s ownership group.

Tems, renowned for her captivating and soulful sound, is making waves again, but this time, it’s in the world of soccer. As the latest addition to the ownership group of San Diego FC (SDFC,) she’s bringing her creative energy, and passion for community to the pitch. The Nigerian musician is joining forces with the football community through the Right to Dream organization — a Ghanaian youth association football academy. Also stepping into this moment is American actress and writer Issa Rae, making this partnership even more impactful.

Tems’ move into the ownership ranks of an industry where women — especially women of color who are often shut out, marks a historic shift. This partnership speaks to a wider cultural evolution — where music, sport and community intersect to inspire the next generation to dream bigger.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tems to the San Diego FC family,” said Sir Mohamed Mansour, SDFC’s Chairman in a press release, “As a globally influential artist, she will help us connect with new audiences and further elevate our unique project, grounded in the Right to Dream organization’s foundations in sub-Saharan Africa.”

Tems expressed her excitement in a press release, “Joining San Diego FC is an incredible opportunity. I’m proud to be part of a club that celebrates culture, creativity and the power of community. Football brings people together in ways nothing else can, and I’m excited to help build something special in a city like San Diego, where diversity and innovation thrive.”
