Rina Sawayama Is Returning to the 'John Wick' Universe

Akira is *so* back.

Japanese-British pop musician Rina Sawayama is set to return to the John Wick universe as the invincible and ruthless daddy’s girl, Akira Shimazu.

The singer first made her acting debut in 2021 for John Wick: Chapter 4. Only starring in one chapter, her impact on the movie was undeniable as she became a fan favorite. “She had like 10 minutes of screen time and still outshined half the cast,” a fan wrote in response to her return news. “Bring it on.”

Following the announcement of John Wick 5 at 2025 CinemaCon, reports confirm Sawayama’s return for Caine, marking the second spinoff, alongside Ballerina. Caine, produced by Donnie Yen, is a sequel to the franchise following Akira, as she avenges her father’s death.

In the last chapter, Akira witnessed Wick kill her father Caine, setting up the foundation for the sequel. It has yet to be confirmed whether Reeves will star in the spinoff, as he will be filming the fifth chapter of the franchise.

“Rina is such a badass,” said Chad Stahelski, producer of JW3 and JW4. “I love what she did with this role in Chapter 4 and can’t wait to see her cross paths with Caine once again.” Yen shared that he’s “Most delighted to welcome Rina back into this new exciting journey… It will be my pleasure and attempt to elevate her amazing character that left us mesmerized from John Wick: Chapter 4!

Stay tuned for updates on Akira’s return.
