Gabbriette Wears Nothing but MAC in New Campaign

“MAC has helped me expand the way that I already do my makeup and play around too.”

MAC Cosmetics just unveiled its “I Only Wear MAC” campaign. In addition to the campaign’s other stars, Gabbriette wears nothing but the Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15. After becoming synonymous with her coveted MAC lip combo, Gabbriette is helping the brand usher in a new era — led by newly appointed global creative director Nicola Formichetti — that’s all about feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Although Gabbriette has worked with the beauty brand before, the stripped-down campaign harps on the star’s childhood love for MAC’s cool girl ethos. “I’ve always been a fan of makeup in general as a kid, but I knew that MAC was the one. I always went to the mall, and the girlies that worked at MAC were always wearing the most insane makeup. All of the makeup artists I’ve worked with started off as a MAC girl, or worked at the MAC counter. So I knew that it was the cool girl brand,” she tells Hypebae.

For the campaign, skin was the key element. In honor of the cult-favorite Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15, photographers Inez and Vinoodh relied on simplified black and white hues to emphasize the skin above all else. “It made a lot of sense for the foundation to have everyone with beautiful, glowing skin running around with their shirts off and skin glowing. It was very MAC,” Gabbriette says.

While other makeup brands can quickly feel stale, Gabbriette finds that MAC is always ahead of the curve and unafraid to tap into its signature experimental, yet naughty aesthetic. In the midst of referencing the brand’s heritage and carving out a new path, Nicola Formichetti’s first-ever campaign seamlessly aligns with both past and future. “[Formichetti] has always really pushed boundaries. I first got to work with him as a stylist and he’s not afraid to take risks. That’s something that MAC really stands for,” Gabbriette adds.
