How This Milanese Hotel Became a Community Hotspot
With a rooftop pool and a killer restaurant, it’s hardly surprising…
Hotel Calimala opened its doors in Milan back in July 2025 and in just over a year, it’s become a cultural destination. Reimagining the role of a hotel as something far more permanent, its arrival in the city aims to change the way we view these spaces. Located in the heart of one of Milan’s most creative neighborhoods, the hotel was designed to be not just for tourists and travellers, but for its local community, too.
Developed as a place where people like to spend their free time, the hotel boasts places to work, eat and drink and relax. So how has it become such an important space? One: by its unique design. Boasting open-plan spaces with a design-focused concept, the hotel fuses bold colors, sleek black terrazzo and chic mirrored surfaces complete with curated art.
Second: its rooftop bar. Part of the hotel’s FIVE restaurant, the rooftop features an impressive swimming pool and bar where the hotel hosts regular “After/5” DJ sets and rooftop yoga.
Finally, its unique programming. Along with music and yoga, the hotel offers creative workshops which help to open the space up to the public. Its extensive event offering also includes activities like color analysis, candle-making and open-air cinema, aiming to give back to its community as much as it houses new ones.
