adidas Taps Lagos Skate Collective waf. for Its New Superstar

The Three Stripes’ first-ever collaboration with a Nigerian brand.

Lagos-based creative community and West Africa’s pioneering skate collective waf. — also known as Wafflesncream — is making history. Co-founded in 2012 by brothers Jomi Marcus-Bello, Nifemi Marcus-Bello and KC Obijiaku, the collective is teaming up with adidas for a first-of-its-kind partnership. Marking adidas’ inaugural collaboration with a Nigerian brand, waf. becomes the first African skate community to reimagine the iconic Superstar ADV silhouette.

Every detail of the sneaker is deeply rooted in Lagos Island. The upper features a dusty grey tone inspired by the area’s industrial landscape, contrasted by breathable side panels built to handle the heat. Meanwhile, the translucent pink outsole captures the hue of the Lagos sky near the water at dusk.

“This shoe carries fourteen years of our community, and it carries our sky,” shared co-founder Jomi Marcus-Bello in a press release.

Since opening its landmark skatepark at Freedom Park in 2024 and spearheading local movements like Go Skate Day, waf. has continually built its scene entirely from the ground up. This collaboration bridges over half a century of Superstar heritage with the raw energy of Naija youth culture.

A limited presale of the waf. × adidas Superstar ADV opens on July 23 exclusively at adidas Lekki in Lagos, ahead of a global rollout starting October 12 via the waf. and adidas websites and select retailers.

In other news, Ghanaian streetwear label Free The Youth and Jordan Brand are launching their second collaboration.
