BTS Fans Are Outraged a Radio Host Called the Group's Music "Noise"
In regard to the song, “Idol.”
BTS made history last week, addressing the United Nations General Assembly in an impassioned and highly lauded speech on youth education and empowerment. The group is leading the K-pop wave both stateside, and around the world, but recent commentary on their latest single, “Idol,” by London-based radio show Capital Breakfast had fans reeling.
According to BuzzFeed News, the radio show played “Idol” on September 24, to which host Roman Kemp then took to air saying, “That was BTS and Nicki Minaj, that noise that you were just hearing there.” Co-host Sonny Jay added: “I thought there [were] construction workers outside.” Earlier in May, Kemp had told the Metro that he couldn’t relate to BTS saying, “Because when you get bands like that that create this fandomania…are they there for the music, or are they there for what the kids look like?”
Fans quickly called out the radio host, labelling him “disrespectful,” believing that he wouldn’t target U.S. or UK artists, with the same attitude. BuzzFeed News was told that the station received 51 complaints regarding the episode.
Read the reactions below. What are your thoughts on Kemp’s comments?
I am disgusted & appalled by @romankemp’s constant disrespectful attitude towards BTS. You using your platform to say things like this defines you as a person. Shame on you! Shame on @CapitalOfficial for allowing this. Y’all can kiss that interview bye byepic.twitter.com/zugWtEVGgH

“Whatever that noise was”
Completely disrespectful way to act towards a song he just played on his own platform. No idea what he was trying to achieve with his (hateful) comment. If @CapitalOfficial knows though, please clear the air & help this ill mannered dj @romankemp https://t.co/PYvG3tfnnl

He seems to specifically target BTS. He wouldn’t do it to any western artist whether he disliked their music or not. Also this isn’t the first time https://t.co/SgJ1XJaSyB
