LIE combines men’s tailoring with the active energy of womenswear.

Chung Chung Lee was born in Seoul, introduced his men’s collections in London, and then went back and forth between Seoul and New York to create the womenswear label LIE. Since childhood, he has traveled all over the world following his famous fashion designer parents who founded, LIE SANGBONG. His experiences in Africa, India, and many other cities have shaped his perspective on the feminine silhouette.

Looking at LIE’s clothes, each garment displays a deep understanding of a woman’s shape. High-quality materials and unique designs are used to draw the eye into the most flattering areas of the body. In modern fashion, the word “luxury” has almost become synonymous with “classic” but this collection goes beyond the definitions of both.

For millennials, luxury is not the life of others. Rather, they interpret it as a message that they create themselves. Ready-made garments and fashion shows are often tools for conveying messages through perceived themes. The agency encourages women to be confident through the slogan “I’M PERFECT” in the last collection:

“I want to talk about what women want and what they should be. I take that idea into the collection. For example, the concept of the Spring/Summer 2019 collection was ‘Perfectly Imperfect’. I wanted to say that women do not need to be perfect and that their imperfection already has a perfect personality.”

Chung Chung Lee also serves as the director of his father’s collection, LIE SANGBONG. He opens up about the dynamics of the father-son, designer-mentor relationship:

“My father, Lie Sang Bong who is one of the most famous designers in Korea. He always tells me ‘If you want to be a designer, you have to keep three words in your mind: creativity, passion and effort.’ He’s my mentor, and I’m following his way.

Launched in New York Fashion Week again with the support from the Concept Korea in Spring/Summer 2019, LIE presented a collection inspired by Amelia Earhart, a leading female aviator in the United States.

“I want to combine the energy that I believe in myself and not afraid to challenge into the style of LIE. It’s a new journey that combines intense detail, soft colors, tailoring, and athleisure style.”
