Celebrate the Year of the Pig with Limited-Edition Dim Sum
The Chinese New Year instalment of our “HYPEBAE Brunch” series.
It’s no secret that our editors are head over heels for dim sum, and with Chinese New Year just around the corner, we found the cutest place in Hong Kong to celebrate the Year of the Pig. Already famous for its pig-shaped BBQ Pork Buns and googly-eyed Hot Custard Molten Buns, YUM CHA puts a new spin on their menu for the biggest holiday of the year in the city.
Read on for our latest “HYPEBAE Brunch” review to get you in the mood for Chinese New Year.
THIS PLACE IS PERFECT FOR: A Chinese New Year outing with the family. From adorable cartoon buns to elegantly detailed dumplings, there’s something for everyone of every age.
WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER: Highlights on the menu that are available all round are the Hot Custard Molten Buns that ooze with lava-like egg yolk custard and also the bird-shaped Baked Pineapple puffs, which are sweet treats reminiscent of Taiwanese pineapple cake. While the restaurant’s BBQ Piggy Buns are also available year-round, they’ve created special-edition buns just for Chinese New Year that are as cute as they are tasty. Other must-tries on the temporary menu are incredibly intricate Goldfish Shrimp Dumplings, gold-flecked Deep-Fried Sticky Dumplings with Minced Pork & Shrimp and the pouch-shaped Braised Mochi Kinchaku.
OUR FAVORITE DRINK: It’s more traditional to drink tea with dim sum, but the restaurant also offers soda and alcoholic drinks.
