Purlicue & Vans Drop "Chubby" Sneakers in Honor of the Year of the Pig
Cute kicks inspired by the Chinese zodiac.
The Chinese zodiac has long acted as inspiration for fashion brands and to celebrate 2019 as the Year of the Pig, everyone from adidas to Gucci has dropped limited-edition products. Next up is Vans, who’ve collaborated with Chinese brand Purlicue for an exclusive update to some of the footwear brand’s best-loved silhouettes.
The Era and Old Skool are both reimagined with a “chubby” finish, with key elements appearing oversized in honor of the pig. The Old Skool’s arrive in two variations; one in “Rose Cloud/Black” which boasts a pastel pink upper contrasted by a black leather sidestripe, jumbo laces and an oversized “Off the Wall” patch on the heel and another version in a similar style, expect with a red and white checkerboard upper and complementary details.
Additionally, the Era sticks to the same color palette of pink and black or red and white options, each with giant laces, enlarged branding on the heel and contrasting midsoles. Each sneaker in the collection is completed with “The Fat Year” written onto the outsole and an adorable pig illustration hiding on the footbed.
