Louis Vuitton Celebrates the Opening of Its New Boutique in Seoul
With celebrities including Chloe Grace Moretz, Jessica Jung, EXO’s Sehun and more.
While the luxury house recently unveiled skin designs for Riot Games’ League of Legends, Louis Vuitton celebrated the opening of its new Seoul boutique in the heart of Cheongdam-dong last night. Created by architects Frank Gehry and Peter Marino, the Maison pays homage to Korean heritage and culture.
Boasting a curved-glass facade, Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul marks Gehry’s first-ever creation in the country. Taking inspiration from historical Korean architecture such as the Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon along with white costumes of the Dongnae Hakchum (Crane Dance), the boutique also shows reference to the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. “What struck me when I first visited Seoul nearly 25 years ago, was the relationship between the architecture and the natural landscape. I still remember clearly the powerful impressions I had stepping up from the garden of Jongmyo Shrine,” the architect explained the thought process behind his design. The interior of the store, designed by Marino, features both retail and exhibition spaces with exclusive sculptures by Giacometti for the grand opening.
To celebrate, the house hosted an opening party at the flagship, as well as a spin-off runway of the Cruise 2020 show which took place earlier this year in New York. The country’s top models including Sora Choi, Hyunji Shin and Yoonyoung Bae took the stage, while the front row was filled with celebrities including Jessica Jung, Claudia Kim, Chloe Grace Moretz, TWICE, EXO‘s Sehun, MINO, Doona Bae and Wooshik Choi.
