UPDATE: Kanye West's Opera 'MARY' Is Coming to New York City
Directed by YEEZY collaborator Vanessa Beecroft.
UPDATE (December 18, 2019): On December 8, Kanye West debuted his second opera titled MARY which took place at the Miami Marine Stadium, an abandoned venue that floats on water which was originally created for boat races. After a successful performance comprising of a silver-painted cast and 12 scenes with Kanye as the star, the rapper took to Twitter this week to announce a second MARY show.
This time around, the second staging of the opera will take place at the Lincoln Center in New York City on December 22. Tickets are now available on the Lincoln Center’s website.

UPDATE (December 7, 2019): Following the announcement of his first-ever opera Nebuchadnezzar back in November, Kanye West is back at it again with another opera dubbed MARY. Created together with YEEZY collaborator Vanessa Beecroft, the show is described as “an original opera, based on the biblical story of the miraculous events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. The Books of Matthew and Luke recount the story of Mary, who was divinely chosen by God to bring forth the Messiah,” and will feature music by West’s Sunday Service choir as well as professional opera singers.
The debut performance will take place on December 8 in Miami. Tickets are currently available online, but hurry up before they’re gone.
ORIGINAL STORY (November 18, 2019): The latest in a whirlwind of events celebrating his recent album Jesus Is King, Kanye West has announced that he will perform his first-ever opera, Nebuchadnezzar, at the Hollywood Bowl on November 24. In typical West fashion, the rapper announced the performance on Twitter along with accompanying Nick Knight-designed artwork.
Nebuchadnezzar, a reference to the ancient Babylonian king, will follow West’s controversial performance with Sunday Service at Joel Osteen’s megachurch. Despite a lack of clarity surrounding what exactly the upcoming opera entails, the performance is set to be directed by artist and frequent YEEZY collaborator Vanessa Beecroft. Sunday Service will perform alongside Kanye, as well as Peter Collins and Infinities Song.
Tickets to Kanye West’s Nebuchadnezzar go on sale at Ticketmaster beginning November 18 at 12 p.m. PST.
